If you're new to NIC or already in a program, you may have some questions. Browse our FAQs below to find your answers.

It depends. Students in some cohort programs, such as carpentry or other trades, will be registered in their courses by NIC. Students in open enrolment programs, such as the Fine Art Diploma or University Studies, will need to register themselves using the Student Planning tool. After you’ve been accepted into a program and paid your tuition deposit, we’ll send information directly to your NIC student email about which process you’ll follow.

Some Adult Basic Education courses are continuous entry (they have a “C” in their course code) and are not eligible for registration using the Student Planning tool. To register for those courses, call us toll-free in Canada at 1-800-715-0914 or drop by Student Services.

If you don’t want to apply for a specific program, consider applying for the University Studies option. This will allow you flexibility in choosing a variety of courses that interest you. You can also work with one of our advisors to customize your courses to easily transfer into an NIC program or university whenever you’re ready.

When in the Student Planning tool, using the “Add course to plan” button for a specific course will allow you to add that course to your list of courses you plan on taking in the future.

If you’re interested in registering for that course for the upcoming term, you’ll need to select the course using the “Add section to schedule” button.

Email us and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you. Note that course substitutions require approval from the faculty department chair.
