There are four choices available to meet a variety of lifestyle and personal needs.

Nano

These compact, single-occupant units are ideal for people who enjoy living and studying alone and don’t mind sacrificing extra space to save on their budget.

Studio

Our comfortable studio units are a good option for students who want to keep their independence while enjoying extra space to live and study.

Quad

Quad units feature four private rooms with a shared kitchen and living area – a great arrangement for students who want to live with friends or peers. 

Total size: 947 square feet

Family

These units are customized for family living and are an amazing on-campus option for students with spouses, children and dependents. Up to four people can live in family housing.

 About the Student Housing Commons

Located on our Comox Valley campus and situated on the traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the Student Housing Commons is among the first of its kind in BC. Made up of two buildings on one site, it features a unique mix of single-occupant and shared housing units – including dedicated on-campus family housing units.

In total, Student Housing Commons provides is equipped to provide 217 beds for students, including 157 student beds in one building and 60 beds for students and families in the second. 

Eligibility

Applications for on-campus housing are open to all students who meet one of the following criteria as of their move-in date:

  • They are a student who is enrolled in a full-time program or who is taking at least nine academic credits 
  • They must be at least 17 years old or a high school graduate 

What’s included

Each unit comes fully furnished, ensuring students can move in without the added cost and hassle of arranging their own furniture.

In addition, student housing rent covers the following expenses:

  • Utilities, including water and electricity
  • High-speed Wi-Fi, available throughout the entire housing commons
  • Free parking
  • Secure bike and outdoor equipment storage
  • Building maintenance and cleaning costs

We also offer on-site laundry facilities, including convenient, pay-per-load laundry with modern machines and app-based payment options. 

Payment options

Students can pay your rent for the school year in full at the start of term or opt for monthly payments (a small administrative fee will apply). 

How to apply

Start by applying for a full-time NIC program or — if you’re already a student — register for at least nine course credits for the upcoming school year.  

Once you’ve paid your tuition deposit, you’ll be eligible to apply for on-campus housing. Start your application the NIC StarRez application portal, which new and continuing students can find through the student housing tile on myNIC.

Complete and submit your housing application, including paying a $50 application fee. After finishing your application, watch your NIC student email for updates on your application and next steps. 



Frequently asked questions 

Students are welcome to bring their spouse/common law partner, their children and extended/dependent family members. Our units are made up of two-bedroom suites that are equipped with three beds. Each suite can accommodate up to four people. 

The nearby Beaufort Children's Centre provides on-site childcare at the Comox Valley campus. Apply early to get on their list!   

Students who are already living in the Student Housing Commons during the spring or summer term are welcome to continue living in their unit as long as they are planning to register for classes in the fall term.
